workwear

Pinned Image

My workwear is a mess: odds and ends bought in times of need, of poor quality. Creased and uncared for. This graphic from Shopbop is the answer to my working woes. Aside from the cream trousers, which I'd swap for grey (schools are dirty) and the heels (low-heel ankle or knee boots would be more practical) I'd wear everything here. The print wrap dress would be especially practical, and I'd probably buy a few in good-quality jersey in a variety of prints. Definitely one to remember for my first payday.

What do you wear for work? Does is fit into your sartorial 'picture, or is it haphazard like mine?

  1. I love all these looks, but i tend to be a lot more basic at work. Lots of jeans, jumpers (or cotton shirts in summer) and dresses (I like APC as I think they look good in different contexts). xx

  2. I dread the quintessential young professional look. After college, luckily I found a job that casual is okay so my wardrobe remained untouched. After 2 years, I just accepted a job offer in the same industry but now requires the "work look". I really want all those looks, but also don't want invest in a completely new business-y look.

  3. soniadeli: I'm pretty basic too, but my level of basic extends to not being bothered to iron my shirts! I like to think that a set of outfits like this would lead to my being more organised with my clothes.

Eunice: I have the same problem. I hate going out and buying 'outfits' - I want my workwear to suit me as much as my casual clothes. I think working out which of these items you'd be comfortable in and would enjoy wearing most is a good start. For example, although I own a few for interviews, I never wear a blazer for work as I find them too constricting. I don't like wearing heels. A 'ladylike blouse' isn't my style. When you think about it like that, it narrows the shopping list down a bit. Work clothes get so much hard wear, I'm resigned to having to repurchase every year.
