Cornwall

A house in Fowey. Underneath is a boat house, I think.

Time for my usual picture post of my holiday in Fowey, Cornwall. The weather was on and off, but by the end of the week we were in glorious sun. There were a few tears when we had to leave - it's the most beautiful part of my favourite country. No matter how much I travel, to me, nothing compares to the British countryside.

Knitted Olympic rings hanging in the harbour.

Fowey, Cornwall, UK.

My holiday style never varies - one of the things I love about Fowey is how casual it is. Everyone goes out to dinner in ripped shorts and messy beach hair. I spent the week in faded denim, white or striped tops and nubbly knits.

Writing postcards outside the pub.

If you ever get the opportunity, go to The Minack Theatre. It's on a cliff overlooking turquoise sea, and was carved and created solely by an old woman. It's on a beautiful bit of coast, too. We went and saw As You Like It and came away thoroughly suntanned and awed.

As You Like It (Shakespeare).

For the Olympics, Royal Mail has been painting the post boxes nearest to gold medal winners' houses gold and we saw one in Penzance, dedicated to a rower.

A curious seal!

I love Cornwall - do go, if you ever get a chance. Have you been off on holiday this year? Where?

  1. That seal! Love. I went to Europe in June/July, as I wrote about on my blog. I'm deeply envious of a friend who just went scuba-diving in the Red Sea at Egypt...she saw hammerheads!

  2. lin: I'd never seen a seal in the wild before and couldn't believe how tame he was - local surfers were feeding him whole mackerel! Your trip to Europe looked wonderful - I'm very conscious of how little of Europe I've seen, considering I live in the UK.
